Men's Soccer Travels to Brooklyn for Key NEC Weekend

LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash men's soccer team start their first double-header Northeast Conference weekend tonight when they take on the 8-1-3 (1-0-1 NEC) Saint Francis Brooklyn Terriers at 7pm. 

SFU stays in the Big Apple for a Sunday matchup at 1pm with the 5-5-2 LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, who are off to a 2-0 start in conference. 

ABOUT THE FLASH

Saint Francis heads into the weekend at 6-3-3 overall on the season and 1-0 in the NEC after a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart last Sunday. The Flash erupted for five second-half goals including three by Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) in under 15 minutes. The freshman swept the conference's player and rookie of the week honors for his efforts.  SFU leads the NEC in shots per game at nearly 16 per match and is ranked second behind SFBK in every major defensive category. The Flash will look to avenge last season's loss to the Terriers in the NEC championship game, SFU took the regular season match-up 1-0, and has won 13 of 27 all time meetings. 

ABOUT THE TERRIERS
The Terriers were the NEC pre-season favorite and are off to a 1-0-1 start in conference and 8-1-3 overall. SFBK was ranked as high as 22 in the NCAA top-25 and sports the NEC's top offense, averaging 1.8 goals per game and defense, allowing .36 goals per game. Vincent Bezencourt leads the offense with four goals and 11 points and Jack Binks has allowed just four goals in 12 starts. SFCathletics.com will have the live coverage of tonight's match. 

ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU is off to a 2-0 start in conference after wins over FDU and Bryant and the Blackbirds are unbeaten in their last four matches heading into the weekend. Rasmus Hansen leads LIU with 13 points so far this season, a mark that puts him tied for third in the NEC. Four Blackbirds have at least two goals so far this season. Three goalies have seen time in net this year with Logan Keys having the most success, going 5-0-1 with a .49 goals against average. The Flash won both meetings with LIU last year, 3-2 in the regular season and 1-0 in the NEC semi-finals. LIU will have live stats and video for the match on Sunday at 1pm.
