Colonials drop Red Flash, 3-0

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Saint Francis Red Flash women's volleyball team fell to the Robert Morris Colonials 3-0 on Saturday at Charles L. Sewall Center. The Colonials downed the Red Flash in three sets 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18.  

The Colonials (12-11; 6-2) jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first match. Saint Francis (4-19; 2-6) cut the Robert Morris lead down to 13-10, but RMU scored six straight points to put the Colonials ahead, 19-10. Robert Morris held Saint Francis to 15 points in a 25-15 win.

The Red Flash held with the Colonials early in the second set, which saw five lead changes and four ties. Saint Francis and would take a 6-5 lead, but Robert Morris would go on a 6-0 run to go up 16-10. RMU scored five of the last six points to close out the match, 25-14.

Robert Morris controlled majority the third set. The Flash fell behind early in the set 5-0, and would rally to cut the Colonial lead to 13-10. RMU would control the rest of the match and would go on to win 25-18.

Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) led the Red Flash with nine kills, while Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) had seven. Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) contributed with 25 assist to lead Saint Francis. Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) tallied 11 digs for SFU.

The Red Flash return home on Oct. 31 to face St. Francis Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
