Brooklyn Showdown: SFU Hosts SFBK, LIU

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Red Flash women's volleyball team welcomes the Saint Francis Brooklyn Terriers and the LIU Blackbirds on Homecoming weekend. The Red Flash squares off against the Terriers on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena starting at 4 p.m. SFU hosts LIU for a Sunday match-up scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE FLASH
The Flash holds an overall record of 4-19 and is 2-6 in the NEC. Saint Francis fell to the Robert Morris Colonials, 3-0 last Saturday at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Colonials downed the Red Flash in three straight sets 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18. Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) led the Red Flash with nine kills, while Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) had seven. Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) dished out 25 assists to lead the Flash. Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) tallied 11 digs.
Senior Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) leads the Red Flash offensively with 212 kills. Metzler has set-up 475 assists so far this year, including a career-high 56 assists against Central Connecticut State on Oct. 17. Metzler is fourth in the NEC with 7.09 assists per game.
 
ABOUT THE TERRIERS
SFBK comes into the weekend with a 4-21 record and is 1-8 in conference play. After winning the first set, 25-21, the Terriers were ousted by the Bryant Bulldogs, 3-1 last Saturday in Brooklyn. Domenique Gerard led the charge for the Terriers with 12 kills and ten digs, while Angela Hudleson finished with 17 assists.
Gerard averages 3.04 kills per game, which is good for fourth in the conference and leads the Terriers with 234 kills. Kelly O'Halloran's 385 assists are first on the team, while Alexa Caporuscio's 247 digs lead SFBK.
 
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
The Blackbirds are currently on a six-game winning streak. During their win streak, the Blackbirds have only lost one set.  LIU defeated Bryant, 3-0 last Sunday. The win improved the Blackbirds to 8-12 overall and 7-2 in the NEC. Mirjana Rajic and Tamara Ignjic had a game-high nine kills for LIU. Nicole Hopton finished with 27 assists.
LIU is second in the conference with 2.40 blocks per game. The Blackbirds are also second in the NEC with 1.55 service aces. Adriana Vinas Joy leads the league with 0.43 service aces per game. Vinas Joy averages 5.13 assists per game. Ignjic's 206 kills led LIU.
