Red Flash go 1-1 on Sunday

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Saint Francis women's bowling team finished in 12th place at the Jersey Jambo and went 1-1 in Sunday's contest.

SFU opened the day against the Golden Bears of Kutztown University. After another slow start in the first game of the 'Best of seven' Baker match, the Flash rattled off games of 185, 186, 213, 198 and 206 to claim a 4-2 victory against KU.

In the second and final match, the Flash lost to LIU-Brooklyn, 4-1. Saint Francis bowled well in the match, but could not get the pin carry needed to produce strings of strikes.

The Red Flash saw three players with strong Baker performances. Ashley Howe-Yorio (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) led the squad with a 21.62 frame average. Freshman Sarah Littleton (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Grayslake North) continued her strong scoring with a 21.14 frame average. Shelby Derr (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) rounded out the top scorers with a 20.81 frame average.

"The team bowled well today. I like how we responded in our first match. In the second match, our slow start caught up to us again. We regained our form and threw quality shots the last three Baker games, but could not catch the pinfall to produce strings. You have to be able to do that against a good team like LIU-Brooklyn.

Up next for the Red Flash is NEC #1 at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, Pa., on Nov. 14-15.
