Women's Volleyball Falls at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Saint Francis Red Flash women's volleyball suffered a 3-0 setback to the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The Flash fell to 4-23 overall and 2-10 in NEC play.  The Pioneers improved to 15-11 overall and 9-3 in the Northeast Conference. The Flash dropped games of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-18.
 
Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic)'s seven kills led the Flash. Lauren Williams (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch) had a team-high 18 assists. Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) finished with a game-high 15 digs.
 
In the first set, the Pioneers quickly jumped out to an 8-2 lead.  Sacred Heart continued to runaway with the opening set and knocked off the Flash, 25-14.
 
The second set started out in favor of the Red Flash. SFU would lead 5-4, but the Pioneers would score three straight points to lead the match, 6-5. A service error by SHU would tie the set, 6-6, but the Pioneers would go on a 3-0 run to go ahead, 9-6. The Flash would pull within two, but Scared Heart would score the last three points to win, 25-20.
 
In the third set, the Pioneers got out of the gate quickly, but the Flash turned it around to put Saint Flash back within one at 7-6. Sacred Heart scored five straight points to go ahead, 12-7. After another run by the Pioneers, the Red Flash continued to chip away. An attack error by SHU cut the lead to 18-13. The teams continued to exchange points down the stretch as Saint Francis' comeback fell short, 25-18.
 
The Flash return home to host the Central Connecticut Blue Devils on Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.
