Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) paced the Saint Francis Red Flash over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on Saturday at DeGol Arena. SFU defeated CCSU 25-15, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-14.

The Red Flash snapped a six-game losing streak and swept the Blue Devils on the season. With the win, the Flash improves to 5-23 on the season and 3-10 in conference. With the loss, CCSU drops to 11-15 overall and 3-10 in the NEC.

Marcinowski and Kutny led the Red Flash offensively with double-digit kills. Marcinowski led the squad with 17 kills, while Kutny contributed with 15 kills and 15 digs. Defensively,
Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished with 32 digs, while
Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) had 14 digs.
Sophie Murdock (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion ) had nine block assists and two solo blocks, while
Lauren Williams (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch) dished out 44 assists.

The Red Flash and Blue Devils exchanged blows early in the first set. Neither team grabbed much of a lead, until SFU went on a 3-0 run to lead, 13-9. Saint Francis scored 11 of the last 12 points to win the first set, 25-15. Kutny had four kills in the set, while Marcinowski had three.

In a second set that featured 10 ties and three lead changes – much like the first set-- neither team controlled the early going. The Blue Devils broke out of a 7-7 gridlock to go ahead, 10-7. The Flash would bounce back and tie the set at 15-15, but CCSU would score the last two points in the set to win, 25-23. Marcinowski led all scorers with six kills in the set.

Saint Francis jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the third and would control much of the set. The Blue Devils pulled within four at 24-20, but a Central Connecticut attack error sealed the 25-21 win. The Red Flash defense held the Blue Devils offense to a 0.22 hitting percentage.

The Flash took an early 3-0 lead heading into the fourth set, but the Blue Devils would score three unanswered point to tie the set. Saint Francis went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. SFU never looked back and would go on to score the last four points to win the set and the match, 25-14.

Saint Francis will host the Bryant Bulldogs for Senior Day on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
