LORETTO, Pa. - One game after playing one of its oldest rivals in the Duquesne Dukes, the Saint Francis men's basketball team plays Binghamton for the first time in school history. The game is the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader for Binghamton and will tip at 7:30 p.m.

The Flash and Dukes took it down to the wire at the Cambria County War Memorial on Saturday. Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit a free throw with nine seconds left to tie the score at 65-65, but Micah Mason hit a jumper from the right baseline with two seconds left to give the Dukes a 67-65 victory. Brown led the Flash with 16 points.

Binghamton is 2-7 and has lost three straight games, all on the road. The first of those came at then-No. 3 Michigan State. The Bearcats are coming off of an 80-64 loss at Buffalo on Saturday. Marlon Beck II led Binghamton with 24 points.

NOTES FROM DUQUESNE

  • The game was the 11th between Saint Francis and Duquesne at the Cambria County War Memorial. The teams played yearly from 1954-62 and again in 1971. In 1955, a Maurice Stokes-led Saint Francis team defeated AP No. 2 Duquesne, 82-72.
  • The Flash held Duquesne to nearly 19 points below its season average of 85.7 points per game.
  • Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes)'s four blocks left him just one shy of tying for fifth on the school's single-game blocks list.
  • Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tied his career high with three three pointers.
  • Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) scored 13 points to give him his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season, matching his total from all of last season.
  • Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored 10 points off the bench, giving him his second double-digit scoring game of the season.
  • The game was the first for the Flash to be decided by single digits, snapping a seven-game streak. That's tied for the third longest streak in school history.
  • The Flash had 10 shots blocked by Duquesne. It's the first time SFU has had double-digit shots blocked against since Youngstown State had 10 on Nov. 26, 2011.

KING JOINS TEAM

Freshman Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell) has joined the team effective Dec. 13. King, a Bishop O'Connell (Va.) graduate, brings the total number of Saint Francis freshmen to eight. King shifted to point guard from shooting guard for Bishop O'Connell last season following the graduation of current Maryland guard Melo Trimble. In that role, he became one of the top players in the D.C.-metro area.

HARMON LEADS NEC

Junior point guard Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) is the NEC leader in assist/turnover ratio, averaging more than two assists for every turnover. Harmon had four assists to just one turnover in Saturday's loss against Duquesne. As a team, the Red Flash has the fewest turnovers in the NEC with 102.

SAINT FRANCIS-DUQUESNE TURNS INTO A BLOCK PARTY

The Red Flash and Dukes combined for 15 blocked shots in Saturday's 67-65 Duquesne victory. Ten of those blocks belonged to Duquesne, making it the first time that a team has registered 10 or more blocks against Saint Francis since Youngstown State had 10 blocks on Nov. 26, 2011. SFU freshman center Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) had four of the Red Flash's five blocks. That left him just one block shy of matching the fifth-highest single game blocks total in school history. Nebo currently ranks third in the Northeast Conference in blocks per game, averaging 1.5 blocks per game. Robert Morris' Elijah Minnie leads the NEC with a 1.88 blocks per game average.

HOLDING DUQUESNE DOWN

The Dukes entered Saturday's contest as a real threat from three-point range, making more than 40 percent of their shots as that facet helped them to average 85.7 points per game. The Flash held the Dukes to just 67 points, including just 6-for-21 from three-point range. Saint Francis leads the Northeast Conference with a 31.1 defensive three-point percentage, and the Flash held the Dukes to just 28.6 percent on Saturday.

SFU HITTING THE THREE

Saint Francis made 9-of-19 three pointers against Duquesne, raising the team's three-point percentage to 34.3. The Flash is the second best team from beyond the arc in the NEC, trailing only Fairleigh Dickinson (35.1 percent).

ABOUT BINGHAMTON

Binghamton comes into Tuesday night's game with the Red Flash with a 2-7 record and losers of three consecutive games. The Bearcats lost at then-No. 3 Michigan State (76-33), at Oakland (83-72) and at Buffalo (80-64) on Saturday. Binghamton's last win also came in its last home game, a 69-50 victory over Colgate at the Events Center.

The Bearcats have three players averaging in double figures, led by Willie Rodriguez's 14.4 points per game. He also leads the team with a 6.0 rebounds per game average and 14 steals in the team's nine games. Marlon Beck II averaged 11.9 points per game and is shooting 44.4 percent (28-for-63) from three-point range. Everson Davis is the third player in double figures, averaging 10.1 points per game.
