LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 20, 2015) -- The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team used a team effort to zap the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, 3-0 in front of rowdy home Saint Francis crowd.
Head coach Michael Rumbaugh used the entire squad as the Red Flash found its form early and often throughout the game. Freshman
Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) led the way for the Flash registering six kills off eight attempts, attacking the ball at a whooping .750 clip.
Behind Kegerreis were
Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and
Tony Nicotra (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes), both tallying four kills in the match. 11 Red Flash attackers registered kills in the contest that featured three lead changes and nine ties.
Adam Kniffen (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) made his presence known on the court recording 10 assists and one kill. Kniffen was one assist shy of tying
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North). Ford led SFU tallying 11 assists in the contest. Also recording an assist in the match was newcomer
Isaiah Holbrook (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown). Holbrook saw his first action of the year in tonight's match.
Joseph Yasalonis (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) came off the bench and recorded a service ace for the Red Flash. Freshman
Shaughn McDonald (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) contributed two service aces and helped the Red Flash close out the Golden Eagles late third set comeback.
Saint Francis found its rhythm early on in the first set and maintained a steady attack throughout the three sets 25-19, 25-13, 25-17. The game lasted a brief 65 minutes.
The Red Flash return to action against Lees-McRae tomorrow at 4 p.m. in DeGol Arena.
