Flash Wins Third Straight in 64-60 Victory

TEANECK, N.J. – Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) recorded his seventh double-double of the season and second in as many games against Fairleigh Dickinson as the Saint Francis men's basketball team defeated the Knights, 64-60, Thursday night at Stratis Arena. Brown finished with game-highs with his 20 points and 14 rebounds.

The Flash (13-9, 7-4) held a lead throughout the second half, but Fairleigh Dickinson kept the game close by matching SFU runs. The score was tied six times and there were eight lead changes. With the score tied at 45-45, SFU went on an 8-2 run to take the lead for good. Four different players scored on the run. Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) led off with a free throw, Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) hit a jumper, Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) made a layup and Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) capped the spurt with a three pointer with 5:14 to play.

The Flash lead grew to 60-53 with just 32.8 seconds left, but FDU came back with seven points in the next 25 seconds to cut the lead to 62-60. But Harmon hit two free throws to seal the deal for SFU. Harmon finished with 13 points and seven assists. He went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 33 seconds as FDU looked to cut into the lead.

The Flash held Fairleigh Dickinson to 39.3 percent shooting from the floor on the night, including 7-for-28 from beyond the arc. Both teams committed 20 turnovers, but SFU held the Knights to just 13 points off those 20 turnovers.

The Flash took a 27-26 lead into halftime mostly on the strength of strong shooting from the field. The Flash shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the first half while holding the Knights to 37 percent. Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) each had six points to lead the Flash, while Brown also added six rebounds in the first half. Saint Francis turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, but Fairleigh Dickinson only converted that into eight points.

The Flash tried to break open the game right after the intermission. The Flash grew the lead to its biggest point just 4:30 into the second half at eight points, 36-28. Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Thompson took turns making baskets on the 9-2 run. Brown opened the half with a three pointer. Thompson's four points in the run helped him to finish with nine.

After a big game at the line on Saturday, the opportunities at the stripe were much harder to come by in the return match with the Knights. The Flash missed both of its free throws in the first half, and most of the second half chances came with Harmon in the final minute. Still, SFU made eight from the line on the night. For the second time in less than a week against FDU, the Flash won while making six three pointers, a season low in a win.

Major finished with nine points on three three pointers while Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had six points, four assists and two steals.

The Flash next travels to LIU Brooklyn on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff following the women's game.
