Flash Routs Delaware State in Home Opener

LORETTO, Pa. (March 21, 2015) – Behind a dominant 11-goal effort in the first period, the Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team won its home opener, 17-7, against Delaware State on Saturday afternoon.

Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the Red Flash offense with a career-high five goals, while Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) and Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) combined for nine assists. SFU as a team had 12 assists on 17 goals as it posted a season-high 39 shots. Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) posted six saves and earned her third win in net for the Flash.

Saint Francis came out firing on all cylinders as it quickly led 9-0 without a single Hornets response. Sydney Shearer (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) scored first for the Red Flash, Lawrence put in four goals during the span, two of which came from free position attempts.

DSU got on the board for the first time at the 11:47 mark, but the Flash quickly responded as Blair Rosenberg (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) and Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored before the break to give SFU the 11-1 advantage.

Delaware State scored two goals to open the second frame before Meyer took advantage of a Hornet card and scored with 24:18 to play. Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored two minutes later off a pass from Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic), which was followed by another Rosenberg tally and SFU led 14-3.

The Hornets then scored three consecutive goals to get back within single digits at the 8:21 mark. Ingram then scored followed by Lawrence's fifth goal of the day and the Flash was back up by 10. DSU would score one more along with SFU's Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) to round out the goals for the contest.

SFU also posted a season-high in caused turnovers with 14. Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High) led all players with four caused turnovers and Mazzur added three. Rowan registered three draw controls for the Flash.
