Second Half Surge Not Enough for Flash at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 12, 2015) - The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team scored 10 second half goals, but fell at Wagner, 19-10, on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Flash faced a severe deficit at halftime as Wagner led 10-0 at the break. The Seahawks stay perfect in Northeast Conference play at 3-0, while SFU falls to 0-3 in league play.

Freshman Elizabeth Henry (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) recorded a career-high 11 saves in net for SFU as she came in to start the second half of play.

To start the second half, Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) and Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) each tallied goals to get the deficit to eight. Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored off a pass from Schaaf, followed by two more goals from the Seahawks and SFU trailed, 13-3.

Lawrence then assisted on Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) goals and SFU trailed 13-5 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Mahon put in another and an action packed nine final minutes would ensue. Wagner scored again, then Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) scored an unassisted goal and SFU had it within seven. Blair Rosenberg (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) followed with a tally as Lawrence added another helper with 5:52 to go.

In the final four minutes, Wagner scored four times compared to just one for Saint Francis, which was put in by Lawrence.

SFU had nine free position shots, but only were able to convert on one of them. Schaaf led SFU with five grounds balls, while Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High) added a team-high five draw controls.

Saint Francis U returns to Loretto for its final weekend of regular season action at home. Central Connecticut comes to DeGol Field for a 6 p.m. contest on Friday evening.
