Lawrence and Ingram Each Score Two in Loss to CCSU

LORETTO, Pa. (April 17, 2015) – Despite holding an early advantage, the Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team lost to Central Connecticut, 17-5, on Friday afternoon.
 
CCSU conceded the opening draw and the Red Flash took advantage as Sydney Shearer (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) passed to Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) and SFU led 1-0 about two minutes in. Central Connecticut responded four minutes later with an unassisted goal.
 
Saint Francis scored its second after a CCSU yellow card as Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) converted on a free position attempt and SFU again led, 2-1.
 
Central Connecticut then tightened its defense and did not allow another SFU goal, while scoring seven. The Blue Devils led 8-2 at halftime.
 
Out of the break, CCSU scored three goals over the first 12 minutes and held an 11-2 advantage. Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) then scored twice, separated by three minutes and change, and both were unassisted.
 
Central Connecticut was able to score six more goals down the stretch, Ingram was able to beat CCSU's keeper on the left side for one more for SFU.
 
Grace Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) grabbed a team-high five ground balls and helped SFU convert seven-of-eight clearing attempts. Lawrence led SFU with two draw controls. Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) had a pair of caused turnovers for the Flash.
 
In net, Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) and Elizabeth Henry (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) split time. McKee recorded eight saves, while Henry posted seven.
 
The Flash return to DeGol Field on Sunday for Senior Day. SFU hosts Bryant at Noon and will honor its lone senior, Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High).
