MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (April 3, 2015) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team fought hard and orchestrated a comeback in the second half, but fell at Robert Morris, 17-9, on Friday afternoon.
Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led the Flash offense and she strung together a career-high three goals.
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) tallied 11 saves in net for SFU.
Robert Morris led 2-0 seven minutes in, before the Red Flash got a free position goal from
Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) at the 22 minute mark. RMU then extended their lead to 6-1 over the next 10 minutes.
SFU's second goal came from Mahon unassisted at the 11:29 mark. The Colonials led 9-2 before the Flash put together two goals right before halftime.
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) and
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) each tallied one before the break and SFU trailed 9-4.
Robert Morris scored the first three goals of the second half and led 12-4 with just over 23 minutes to play. Mahon broke the drought for SFU off a feed from
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus).
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) followed in suit with a free position goal and the Flash was within six.
RMU tallied another goal, but
Sydney Shearer (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) and Mahon each scored and SFU was within five with 11 minutes to go. Robert Morris then called a timeout. Lawrence would score SFU's ninth goal at the 5:55 mark.
Fini led the Flash with five ground balls and two draw controls.
Saint Francis U returns to action at home against Mount St. Mary's next Friday at 3 p.m.
