LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis softball team closes its 2015 regular season schedule with a home doubleheader against Robert Morris on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Flash has an opportunity to clinch a spot in the NEC Tournament against the Colonials. The Flash can clinch a playoff spot with two victories or by splitting the doubleheader, having LIU Brooklyn split with CCSU, and by keeping its runs allowed in conference games below LIU Brooklyn's. More information on the playoff scenarios is below.
Saint Francis is coming off a doubleheader loss at Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) led the charge for the Flash, reaching base five times in the two games. She had two hits in game two, including her second home run of the season.
Saint Francis swept Robert Morris on the road last season as it didn't allow the Colonials to score a run in two games. The wins were the first for the Red Flash against Robert Morris since 2006, and it was the Flash's first sweep of the Colonials since 2003.
Tomorrow's games are slated to air live on NEC Front Row and 1400 WWGE-AM.
PLAYOFF SCENARIOSOn Thursday, the Northeast Conference published playoff and tiebreaker scenarios for the 2015 NEC Tournament. The top four teams qualify for the tournament.
From the NEC:If CCSU and Robert Morris finished tied for first place, the tiebreaker and NEC Tournament hosting rights go to CCSU.
FDU can clinch an NEC Tournament berth with either a Saint Francis U or LIU Brooklyn loss in their final series.
If SFU and LIU both sweep, then FDU is eliminated from playoff contention with SFU and LIU Brooklyn taking the final two playoff spots. Any SFU and LIU Brooklyn two-way tiebreaker as it relates to qualification or seeding will go to the team that has allowed the fewest runs in Conference games. Currently, SFU has yielded 55 runs and LIU Brooklyn 66 runs in league play.
Bryant can earn the fourth playoff spot only if SFU and LIU Brooklyn are both swept.
PARSONS PUSHING FOR HITS RECORDOn the final day of the regular season, senior center fielder
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) has a chance to become the all-time hits leader in Saint Francis history. Parsons recorded one hit in Wednesday's doubleheader at Pittsburgh, giving her 193 hits for her career. That leaves her just one shy of tying the school record of 194, set by Kelly Slingwine from 2006-09.
Her 57 hits this season is currently tied for third on the single-season list with Cassie Scofield from 2002. Nicole Bender's 65 hits in 2008 is the current school record.
Parsons already broke the career doubles record earlier this season, but she's also chasing the single-season record in that category. She is currently tied with Brooke Keiper's 19 doubles from 2001.
