LORETTO, PA – Former Red Flash forward
Shaqeia Stokes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) will continue to compete in collegiate basketball during the 2015-2016 season, using her final year of eligibility to play for the University of Cincinnati while pursuing her graduate degree.
Â
"We're really happy for Shaqueia and the tremendous opportunity she has to continue her graduate studies and her basketball career at Cincinnati, her hometown university," said fourth-year head coach
Joe Haigh. "We wish Shaq all the best, both on the court and in the classroom this upcoming season."
Â
Stokes is coming off her most productive season to date, in which she made 16 starts in 25 games played, averaging 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She opened last season scoring in double-figures in two of the first three games, including a career-high 17 points when the Red Flash faced East Tennessee State. She also posted a career-best 10 rebounds against Wagner, marking her first time rebounding in double-figures.
Â
"We are happy to add fifth-year graduate
Shaqeia Stokes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) to our program," said Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Jamelle Elliott on Stokes joining the Bearcats' roster. "She is a Cincinnati native with a great build and is an athletic post player who can run the floor. She will make an immediate impact on the team both on the court and from a leadership perspective."
