WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA- The Red Flash got two more goals from
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) but Georgetown capitalized on a pair of set plays in a 4-2 Hoya win on Sunday.
Saint Francis out shot Georgetown13-8, including 8-7 in shots on goal and held a 9-6 penalty corner edge. However, the Hoyas scored on a penalty stroke and off a penalty corner and that proved to be the difference.
Irene Fritschy (Zwolle, The Netherlands) set-up Adamshick's first goal, just eight minutes into the contest. The goal came off a flurry of shots following a penalty corner and directly followed a Hoya foul.
It would stay 1-0 Red Flash until the 21
st minute. The Hoyas tied the game as
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made a save but couldn't corral the rebound. Aliyah Brown snuck it past the senior net minder to tie the game at one. That would be the score at the half.
The Hoyas took a 2-1 lead in the 41
st minute when a penalty corner led to a penalty stroke for Georgetown. Davin Holmes capitalized on the shot to put GU in front. Moments later, in the 46
th minute Holmes fed Sarah Butterfield on a penalty corner to make it 3-1 Hoyas. It would stay 3-1 for the next 10 minutes until the Hoyas struck again. In the 56
th minute, Helena Masiello put home a rebound to make it a 4-1 contest.
Zeiders would make a couple of key saves to keep it a 4-1 contest as the Red Flash turned up the offensive pressure. Fritschy,
Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton), and
Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) all had shots turned aside before Adamshick snuck one in through a scrum in front of the net. The senior's second goal of the contest came with just two minutes left.
Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) fired one more shot on goal off a penalty corner, but was once again turned aside.
