Men's Volleyball Takes Down IPFW, 3-0

LORETTO, Pa – In front of rambunctious crowd at DeGol Arena, the Saint Francis men's volleyball team defeated the IPFW Mastodons in three sets on Friday night. The Flash won the match 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.

SFU improves to 2-3 overall on the season, while IPFW drops to 2-3.
 
"It was a great team victory and a huge shout out to the 'Rascals' for attending tonight's match," said head coach Mike Rumbaugh.
 
Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) contributed with seven kills on 10 attempts; two services aces and added 12 digs. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) led the Flash with nine kills and finished with one service ace. Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) finished with a team-tying nine kills, while Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) had a game-high 28 assists, and added a .750 hitting percentage. The Flash outhit the Mastodons .345 to .147. 
 
IPFW opened a 4-2 lead early in the first set. The Flash came right back to tie the score at 5-5. SFU used a 5-0 run to break an 11-11 tie to go ahead, 16-11. Saint Francis scored three of the last four points to take set one, 25-20.
 
Both teams exchanged 3-0 runs in the early stages of set two to tie the score at 5-5. The Mastodons generated another 3-0 to knot the score up at 16-16. A kill by Braswell led the Flash to scored five unanswered points to put SFU up, 22-17. The Flash closed out the second set scoring the last three points for the 25-20 win.
 
The Flash took a 10-7 led to begin the third set and led 15-13 on a kill by Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central). Saint Francis finally started to pull away later in the set and led 23-18. An attack error by IPFW gave SFU the 25-20 win.
 
Saint Francis returns home tomorrow against No. 14 Ball State at 7 p.m.
