"Consistency is the key to our sport and was the key to our success on Friday and Saturday. We weren't consistent today and put our backs against the wall in both matches against Kutztown," said head coach
Tom Falbo. We finished well in round one, but gave away too much in the championship match. A combination of open frames with Kutztown making the most of those opportunities was the difference."
Saint Francis started the day as the top seed and went on to defeat the second seed Kutztown, 4-3. The Flash defeated the Golden Bears, 202-192, in the 7th and deciding game.
By winning round one, the Red Flash earned a bye in round and advanced directly into the Championship Match in the third round.
SFU started strong posting a 209 for the first game, filling all 10 frames. KU still had the ninth and 10th frame to bowl, needing strikes in the ninth, 10
th and 11
th to have a chance to win game one. That is exactly what the Golden Bears did, winning game one, 213-209.
That game one loss, rocked the Flash who then went down 3-0 against Kutztown. SFU then stiffened their back winning games four and five with games of 178 and 209. In game six, the Red Flash opened in three of the first six frames and the Golden Bears took advantage, cruising to a 191-160 finish. Kutztown won the match, 4-2.
Udziela, Howe-Yorio and Littleton earned All-Tournament Team honors for their performance in traditional play in Saturday's round. Udziela finished with the second highest average in the tournament with a 198.16 average. Howe-Yorio finished third overall with a 197.67 average and Littleton averaged 195.6.
"This long pattern requires not only good shot-making but ability to stay clean. All three ladies did a great job contributing to our Saturday's team results. This long pattern tests your skills and Kyra, Ashley and Sarah provided solid scoring and great inspiration for the team. Congratulations to them on their honors."
The Red Flash will next compete in Kenosha, Wis., on Feb. 19-21 at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic.
