Women's Volleyball Travels to Bryant, CCSU This Weekend

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball makes a trip to the Northeast this weekend to face Bryant and Central Connecticut State. Saint Francis takes on Bryant on Saturday at 5 p.m. and CCSU on Sunday at 3 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis enters the weekend with a 4-16 record and is seeking their first win in conference play. The Flash dropped a 3-0 decision in NEC action last Saturday against Robert Morris. Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) led SFU with eight kills, while Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) added 18 assists and Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) recorded 16 digs. Opera and Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) rank in the top-10 in the NEC in kills, each averaging over 2.5 kills per set. Defensively, Veres ranks second in the conference in digs per set with 5.10, while Sophia Espositio's 1.04 blocks per set is fourth in the NEC. Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) is second in the conference in assists as she is averaging 8.04 assists per set.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Bryant is currently tied for fourth with a 4-3-conference record. The Bulldogs dropped a non-conference match to Dartmouth on Wednesday, 3-1. Offensively, they are led by Julia Flynn who has amassed 190 kills, but seven players have recorded 100 more kills on the season.  On the defensive side of the ball, Erica Venituoli leads the squad with 315 digs. Ally Lunsford leads the conference in hitting percentage (.330). SFU fell to Bryant in four sets on Sept. 24.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
CCSU comes into the weekend with a 6-1 record, which leads the conference. Saint Francis will look to snap the Blue Devils' six-game home winning streak on Sunday. Central Connecticut dropped their first conference match to LIU Brooklyn last Sunday, 3-1. Morgan Woycik and Maddie Smith rank in the top-10 in the conference in hitting percentage. Smith (1.23) and Brooke Schwab (1.13) ranks first and second, respectively, in the conference in blocks per set. As a team, CCSU averages 2.54 blocks per set, which is first in the conference. Despite being up two sets to one, SFU fell to CCSU in four sets on Sept. 25.

Saint Francis returns home next weekend against Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson. Both matches are set for 2 p.m.
