DAY TWO RECAP

Mihalo's 74 is the low round of the tournament for the Red Flash. The sophomore birdied the first and eighth holes and made the turn at plus-2. He kept his strong play going on the back nine as he birdied the par-5 12th and finished the back nine at one over to shoot three over. At +9 for the tourney, Mihalo is in a tie for 55th.

Stevens is in a tie for 69th at +13 for the tournament through two of three rounds. Stevens played a steady front nine, making the turn at three-over after carding six pars. Stevens birdied holes 10 and 12 but a sextuple bogey nine on the 11th set him back. He recovered nicely to play the final six holes at even par and went to the clubhouse with his 78. Austin Renz (Danville, Pa./Danville) joined Stevens with a 78 on Monday. Renz got to two under on his round after back-to-back birdies on hole two and three. Double bogeys on holes seven and nine put him at +3 through nine. The sophomore was four-over on his back nine closing with three bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie on the 16th.

Also scoring for the Flash were Kurtis Straw (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) and Greg Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone) who shot 90 and 91, respectfully. Straw was undone by a pair of triple bogeys as well as four double bogeys on his round. Ferguson also had four double bogeys but could not over come a five-over nine on the par-4 10th hole on Monday.

The Flash shot 320 as a team on Monday, compared to the 319 as a team on Sunday. They will wrap up the three-day tournament on Tuesday with a split start between the first and 10th holes.

ROUND 1 RECAP
Dominic Stevens and Brandon Mihalo (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Holy Names Catholic) each shot an opening round 77 to lead the Red Flash at the OBX Invite hosted by Old Dominion.

In the first of three rounds in SFU's fall finale, Stevens played a strong and steady round on Sunday. Stevens fired off 13 pars on his round to go along with a birdie, bogey and three double bogeys en route to his six-over round of 77. He stumbled a bit mid round with back-to-back doubles on holes six and seven. He rebounded nicely to birdie the ninth hole to make the turn at plus-four and carded pars on the final five holes of his round.

Mihalo equaled Stevens round of 77 after seven bogeys and a birdie on his opening round. He had a rough patch of three bogeys in four holes on the front nine but battled back with a birdie on eight to make the turn at plus three. Mihalo then carded three more bogeys against six pars on the back nine to enter the clubhouse with a 77 and in a current tie for 63rd.

Kurtis Straw (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) and Austin Renz (Danville, Pa./Danville) shot 82 and 83 on their opening rounds, respectfully. A double bogey, two bogeys and a birdie put Straw at plus three as he made the turn on Sunday. A triple bogey on the par-3 11th undid his back nine as well as back-to-back double bogeys on 17 and 18 to put him at plus-7 for the back nine. Renz, birdied the first hole and a bogey on five dropped him back to even. However a rough stretch of two double bogeys on eight and nine was compounded with a quadruple bogey 8 on the 10th. Renz was able to settle back down and finished with an 83 on Sunday.

Also playing for the Flash is Greg Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone). He shot an opening round 87 as a pair of triple bogeys and four double bogeys made for a tough opening round. SFU shot a team score of 319 and they will head back to the course on Monday for the second of three rounds in the OBX Invite.
