LORETTO, PA-Â The Red Flash men's soccer team travels to Fairfield, Connecticut this weekend to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at noon.Â
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis matched a program high with seven non-conference victories with its 2-0 win over Howard on Tuesday.
Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) scored his second goal of the season to break a scoreless tie in the second half and
Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) bent in a beautiful free kick to score his first of the year. The senior's goal made him the 11th player to score for the Flash this year.
Marcus Rojas (Fremont, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory)' earned his seventh win and fifth clean sheet as he dropped his season goals against average to .89. The Flash will host St. Francis Brooklyn next Friday in their NEC home opener.Â
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
The Pioneers were picked eighth in the NEC in the pre-season poll and open conference play on Friday as they host St. Francis Brooklyn. They come into the weekend at 2-5-2 on the year with wins at Iona and at home versus Holy Cross. Shaquille Saunchez leads SHU with five goals on the season, he's scored half the team's goals this year. In goal, freshman Robert Strain has gotten every start in goal. He has played to a 1.57 goals against average and a .766 save percentage. Historically, the Red Flash have dominated the series, going 15-2-2 all time and are undefeated at Sacred Heart. The Pioneers last defeated SFU in 2009.Â
