MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Saint Francis football team used a dominating defense effort to earn a 24-10 win at Robert Morris to open NEC play on Saturday. The Red Flash recorded eight sacks and four interceptions, while holding RMU to just seven yards rushing. Saint Francis improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Robert Morris dropped to 1-5, including 0-1 in the NEC.

Saint Francis totaled 241 yards, including 150 passing and 91 rushing.Â

Senior quarterback
Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) completed 10-of-20 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. With those two scores, he moved into a tie for third place all-time at SFU with 40 career touchdown passes, tying Kevin Magee (1991-93).

Junior running back
Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) returned to the starting lineup, after sitting out last week with an injury, and rushed for 102 yards on 25 carries. He also caught three passes for 35 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown reception. Sophomore receiver
Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) caught three passes for 47 yards, while
Junior Ajayi (Delran, N.J./Holy Cross) had three catches for 20 yards.

The Saint Francis defense held its fourth straight opponent to under 20 points and 120 yards passing. The Red Flash did not give up an offensive touchdown, while holding Robert Morris to 108 total yards, including only 101 passing and just seven yards rushing.

Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) was all over the field on Saturday, with 10 tackles, eight solo, 2.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, two pass breakups, a 48-yard touchdown catch, a four-yard run and 108 kick return yards.

Jerome now has six interceptions this season and 18 interceptions for his career. He is just one pick behind the NEC Career Record (Chris Blackshear, Central Connecticut State, 2001-03) and SFU Career Record (Jason Wilson, 1991-94).Â

With his 108 kick return yards, Jerome also moved into second all-time at SFU with 1,218 career yards. The 108 yards included a 76-yard return on the opening kickoff.

Jerome now has eight career touchdowns, with the 48-yard reception being his first offensive touchdown.

Leaeno a team-best 11 tackles, with eight solo, three for loss and a pass breakup, while Gray had eight stops, including two for loss, and a pass breakup. Weiss recorded six tackles, with 1.5 for loss, while Lee had a team-high four tackles for loss. Lee also blocked a punt and recovered it at the RMU 1 to setup a touchdown.

The Red Flash got on the board first on a 41-yard field goal by
Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) with 13:22 left in the first quarter. Jerome picked up 74 yards on his opening kickoff return to setup SFU at the RMU 26. SFU did not get much going in the first three plays, but Geesey hit a 41-yarder to give SFU the lead.

Saint Francis scored again with 3:01 left in the opening quarter on a 14-yard pass from Drayer to Bagley. After an interception by Jerome, SFU started the drive on its 22. Bagley had a big impact on the drive with a 23-yard run and a 25-yard reception. Lewis also had a 15-yard catch to help setup the touchdown. On third down at the RMU 14, Drayer found Bagley on the left sideline and Bagley took it up the sideline into the end zone. Geesey's extra point gave SFU a 10-0 advantage.

Robert Morris answered with a field goal with 11:49 left in the second quarter. Connor Shennan converted a 42-yard attempt to cut the SFU lead to 10-3. Quarterback Andrew Romanchak completed three passes for 23 yards on the drive to help setup the field goal.

The Red Flash added a touchdown early in the third quarter. Jerome lined up behind Drayer in the pistol. After the snap, Jerome ran a wheel route down the right sideline. Drayer hit a wide-open Jerome in stride and Jerome made a defender miss before taking it into the end zone for the score. Geesey's extra point extended SFU's lead to 17-3 with 11:36 left in the third quarter.

Saint Francis extended its lead to 24-3 on a one-yard sneak by Drayer with 11:39 left in the fourth quarter. Lee blocked RMU's punt and recovered it at the RMU 1. Drayer got into the end zone on the next play, with Geesey's extra point pushing the SFU lead to 21.

Robert Morris answered by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. Dante Satcher scored on a 100-yard return, taking a seam up the middle to the right sideline. The score cut SFU's lead to 24-10 with 11:25 remaining.

The Red Flash returns to DeGol Field next week for a Noon kick vs. Bryant. The Bulldogs, on a bye week, are 2-3 this season. The game will be livestreamed on NEC Front Row.
