LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team closes out the regular season this weekend at LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn. On Saturday, SFU plays LIU at 1 p.m. and SFBK at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis will try to spoil LIU Brooklyn's playoff hopes this weekend and will look for redemption against SFBK. The Flash are 5-20 overall and is 1-11 in the NEC. Last weekend against FDU and RMU,
Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) led SFU with 24 kills. Defensively,
Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished the weekend with 41 digs. Veres has already surpassed the record for digs in a single-season with 471 and will to add to her total this weekend.
Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) is currently ninth in the NEC in kills per set with 2.63. SFU will look to stop LIU's 27-match win streak on Saturday while trying to snap a two-match skid against SFBK.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU is 11-14 on the season and currently sits tied for third in the NEC playoff picture with an 8-4 record. Last weekend, the Blackbirds were swept by Bryant and defeated CCSU in five sets. Alex Larsen and Alexandria Lilliquist lead the offensive attack for the Blackbirds. Larsen and Lilliquist rank fifth and sixth in the conference in kills per set. Amanda Hubbard tops the NEC in assists per set averaging 9.12. Natalie Rivera leads the defense and ranks second in the conference with 5.22 digs per set. LIU defeated SFU in five sets on Oct. 8 at DeGol Arena.
ABOUT THE TERRIERS
St. Francis Brooklyn enters the weekend with an 8-20 overall record and is 3-9 in the NEC. The Terriers fell in straight sets to both CCSU and Bryant last weekend. Domenique Gerard leads the offensive for the Terriers and ranks seventh in the NEC in kills per set with 2.76. Macy Kurtz's 5.71 assists is seventh in the NEC. Sidney Benson averages 1.06 blocks per set, which ranks fourth in the conference. Last time out, SFBK swept SFU on Oct. 9 in Loretto.
