BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team fell in four sets to LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. The Red Flash fell 22-25, 25-27, 25-22 and 19-25.

The Flash received a balanced offensive effort on Saturday from Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ). It was LIU who took an early lead in the first, and the Red Flash would battle back to cut the deficit to 11-10. The Blackbirds started to pull away, but SFU used a 3-0 run to trail 17-15 and would force LIU to use their first timeout of the first set. SFU would remain to keep the set close but a Filippa Hannson kill gave LIU the first set, 25-22.

LIU would jump out to a 10-4 lead to start the second set. SFU would go on to outscore LIU, 8-4 midway through the set to trail 15-13. A kill by Roush and Sophie Murdock (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion ) highlighted a 3-0 run to give SFU a 20-19 lead. Saint Francis scored three unanswered points and started to pull away at 22-19, but LIU responded with a 3-0 run of their own to tie the set at 22-22. Saint Francs took advantage of two LIU attack errors to take a 24-22 lead. With SFU on the cusp of winning the set, the Blackbirds clawed their way back to eventually take a 25-24 advantage. A Christa White (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) kill would tie the set at 25-25. LIU closed out the set with two-straight points to win the second set, 27-25.

The third set was a back-and-fourth affair as the teams split the first 16 points. The turning point came at 16-16 when SFU ripped off three-straight points off three kills by three different players to take a 18-16 lead. The Flash would maintain their lead the rest of the way to take the set, 25-22.

It would be all Blackbirds in the fourth set, running out to leads of 10-2 and 15-5. Saint Francis would put together a string off five-straight points to pull within eight at 22-14. The Flash would continue to fight and would rattle off a 5-0 run to make the score 24-19, but an attack error by Saint Francis would gave the set and match to LIU, 25-19.
