Flash Points:
- SFU hit 19 threes, tying a program record
- Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) had 17 points to lead six players in double figures
- The 119 points are the most since they beat Westminster last season (103)
LORETTO, PA-
Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) scored a career-high 17 off the bench and the Red Flash out scored Chatham 65-26 in a 119-59 rout in the Flash's 2016-17 home opener.
Saint Francis hit 19 of 32 three-points as eight different players connected from long distance on Saturday night. The 19 threes tie a program record originally set on 2/25/89 against LIU Brooklyn. The 19 threes mark the third-straight game the Flash have connected on double-digit three pointers and the second-time this season they have hit over half of their triples.
Chatham had their three ball working early as they hit on their first two attempts on Saturday to keep up with SFU early. The Cougars were not shy from firing from distance, going 12-40 on threes on Saturday night. Saint Francis set the tone early with their inside presence.
Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) hit on his first five shots and scored 10 of the team's first 16 points on the night. The sophomore scored 12 points in just 15 minutes. The Saint Francis defense helped to break the game open after the first media timeout. A pair of
Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) steals led to lay-ups by
Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) and
Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) as the Flash lead extended to double digits for the first time. SFU held the Cougars to just two points over a five-minute stretch midway through the half as Blackmon and Jamal King each had a pair of buckets, extending the lead out to 25 at 45-20. SFU would lead 54-33 at the half.
Again the Flash defense set the second-half tone as after an initial surge from Chatham, SFU locked down on defense, limiting the Cougars to just four points over a seven minute period. Threes came early and often in the half for SFU as
Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou), King and Blackmon each hit from distance on consecutive possessions. Steals from Randall Gaskins, Braxton and Wolford led to run outs on the other end, forcing a timeout with the Flash lead extending out to 37 points. Saint Francis got everyone in the mix on Saturday as
Michael Klebon (Paxinos, Pa./Southern Columbia) and
Tre McKeithen (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) each hit threes and
Deon Baker (Pittsburgh,Pa/Gateway) drove to bucket on a pair of impressive drives. The ball movement was impressive on Saturday as SFU dished out 30 assists led by Angelou's nine and
Scott Meredith (Pilot Mountain, N.C./Hargrave Military Academy (Va.))'s four. Meredith in his first start had nine points, four assists and three rebounds.
Saint Francis shot 60 percent from the field and marks the first time they've shot that well from the field since they shot 65 percent at Navy on November 29, 2014. The SFU bench had 68 points on Saturday including Wolford, Blackmon and King all in double figures. The Flash out rebounded the Cougars 54-31 with Braxton leading the way with eight boards. Saint Francis will stay at home as they welcome in the Longwood Lancers for the first ever meeting between the schools. Tip time is set for Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
