Men's Volleyball Suffers Setback Against Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team suffered a 0-3 setback to the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Friday night at William H. Pitt Center. The Flash fell, 23-25, 19-25 and 18-25.

Saint Francis drops to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in conference, while Sacred Heart improves to 1-7 overall and 1-0 in the EIVA.

"Well… we didn't show up ready to play. We need to show up every night and every day if we want to make the playoffs in the competitive EIVA," said head coach Mike Rumbaugh.

Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) led the Flash with 11 kills, while Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) had five digs.

The Flash took control early of the first set with a 5-0 advantage. SHU battled back and eventually tied the set at 16-16, forcing SFU to call a timeout. Both teams would trade points and Hogan and Kegerreis combined on a block to give the Flash a 21-18 lead. The Pioneers scored the last three points to take the first set, 23-25. Braswell led Saint Francis with six kills, a service ace and two digs.

SHU lead early in the second set, 10-3, and Saint Francis was unable to recover. Sacred Heart took the second game, 19-25. Braswell posted five kills in the frame to lead the Flash.

Sacred Heart took a 9-4 lead in the third set. SHU would go on to control the rest of the set and take the set and match, 18-25.

Saint Francis is back in action tomorrow against Harvard at 7 p.m.
