CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday night to the Harvard Crimson in three sets at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Crimson won the match, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.
The Flash dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in conference, while the Crimson improve to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the EIVA.
"Much improved effort. We still have a long way to go. It was nice to see (Brandon) Buck break out of his slump," said head coach
Mike Rumbaugh.
Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) had a team-high 13 kills and finished with a .522 hitting percentage.
Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and
Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) posted four kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
After exchanging points early in the first set, Harvard pulled out to an 8-4 lead, forcing Saint Francis to call a timeout. The Flash scored four unanswered points to pull within two at 11-9. The Crimson cruised the rest of the way to take the first set, 25-19. Braswell and Buck led the Flash with four kills each.
Neither team led by more than two points in the second game. The Crimson held a two-point lead at 9-7, but the Flash would score three unanswered points to grab the lead at 10-9. A Trevor Dow service ace put the Crimson ahead, 14-12. Both teams would trade points the rest of the set with Harvard eventually taking the set, 25-23. Buck finished the frame with five kills.
Once again, neither team could gain much of an advantage in the third set. Harvard would lead, 16-14, later in the set. The Crimson used a 4-0 run to lead, 20-16. A Dow kill ended the game and the match, 25-20.
Saint Francis returns to DeGol Arena this Friday to take on Princeton at 7:30 p.m.
