Men's Volleyball Buries NJIT, 3-1

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team fell in the first set against NJIT on Saturday night in EIVA action, but the Flash recovered for a 3-1 victory over the Highlanders. The Flash won, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-18.
 
The Flash improve to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the EIVA, while the Highlanders fall to 0-10 and 0-2 in the conference.
 
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) each had 15 kills. Hogan and Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) both tallied five total blocks. Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) finished with 40 assists, while Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had a game-high three service aces. Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) led the Flash with seven digs.
 
The Flash led early in the first set but the Highlanders went on a 3-0 run to lead, 9-7. NJIT used another 3-0 run to pull ahead, 17-12. A SFU service error gave the Highlanders the 25-21 win.
 
SFU would take a 5-2 lead in the second set, but NJIT scored four unanswered points to take the 6-5 lead. Saint Francis would lead, 17-13, but NJIT put together a 4-0 run to trail by one at 20-19. The Flash scored the last two points to win the set, 25-21.
 
The teams traded serves throughout game three, with the Highlanders leading 8-6. The Flash would outscore the Highlanders, 5-1, to jump ahead, 10-8. NJIT would fight back to knot the score up at 16-16. SFU would score three straight points to lead, 22-19. A Braswell kill secured the win, 25-22.
 
Saint Francis jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the fourth set. NJIT scored three straight points to tie the score at 10-10. The Flash used a 3-0 run to take the lead at 13-10. A Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) kill sealed the match at 25-18.
 
The Flash returns to DeGol next Friday against George Mason and Saturday against University of Charleston. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
