Women's Lacrosse Routs Radford in Season Opener

LORETTO, Pa. – A total team effort powered the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team for their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 23-8 win over Radford University at DeGol Field.

Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) led the Flash with two assists to become Saint Francis' all-time assists leader.

The Flash improves to 1-0 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 0-1.

Saint Francis saw nine different players score in the contest and was led by Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic)'s six-goal outburst. Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was second on the squad with five goals, while Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) finished with four. Ashley Stoessel (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) posted five saves for her first collegiate victory. The Flash outshot the Highlanders 37-19.

Saint Francis was held off the scoreboard for the first three minutes of the match, but a Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) goal tied the score at 1-1. The Flash would score three unanswered goals to pull ahead, 4-1.

The Highlanders would keep it close and cut the deficit to two at 7-5, but SFU would outscore Radford, 5-1, down the stretch heading into the half.

The Flash came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Just 34 seconds in to the second period, Ingram put Saint Francis on the board with a free-position goal to gave Saint Francis a 13-6 lead.

Saint Francis held Radford off the scoreboard for nearly 14 minutes before the Highlanders would score again to put the Flash up, 18-8. Goals by Mahon, Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) closed out the victory for the Flash, 23-8.
