No 15 Men's Volleyball Bounces Back Against Lees-McRae, 3-1

LORETTO, Pa – The No. 15 Saint Francis men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 win over the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Friday night at DeGol Arena. The Flash won the match 25-23, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-13.

The Flash improves to 4-3 overall, while the Bobcats fall to 0-6 on the season.

"It is always a good match when you can get a lot of guys playing time – and still get the victory," said head coach Mike Rumbaugh.

Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Flash with 13 kills on 30 attempts, while Adam Kniffen (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) dished out 41 assists. Xavier Krause (Butler, Pa./Butler) was second on the squad with nine kills, finished with a .692 hitting percentage and added four block assists. Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) finished with seven kills and added six block assists.

The Bobcats put a scare in the Flash early in the first set when LMC used a 7-0 run to jump ahead, 10-5. Saint Francis used two different 3-0 runs to pull within two at 17-15. A Kniffen kill would put the Flash up, 20-19, but the Bobcats would go on to outscore the Flash 4-1 to lead, 22-21. SFU scored four of the last five points to win, 25-23.

Saint Francis got off to a fast start in the second set leading, 11-3. The Bobcats scored three unanswered to try to claw back, but the Flash lead was too large. A Hogan kill capped off the second set in favor of the Flash, 25-18.

LMC would refocus in game three, as it jumped out to a 6-2 lead.  The Flash would comeback to tie the score at 6-6. Lees-McRae scored the last two points to win, 25-19.

The Flash was dominant in the fourth set, as they never trailed throughout the match. Saint Flash outscored Lees-McRae 7-2 early in the fourth set. SFU never looked back and sailed to a 25-13 victory.

Coach Rumbaugh goes for his 200th career win tomorrow when the Flash takes on the Pfeiffer Falcons at 7 p.m.
