HOWELL, N.J. – Three members of the Saint Francis women's bowling team received All-NEC Honors on the first day of the NEC Championship.
Ashley Howe-Yorio (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) was named NEC Player of the Year, while
Kyra Udziela (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) earned NEC Rookie of the Year and
Sarah Ross (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) was named All-NEC Second Team.
Â
Howe-Yorio led the entire conference in traditional average with a 205.3 for 10 games bowled. She also led the entire conference with a 19.96 overall frame average. The overall frame average combines traditional frames and baker frames bowled for the regular season.
Â
The senior's 89 percent filled frame percentage came during her 20 starts in the regular season. Her conference performance in the NEC #2 was stellar in traditional game play. For the five traditional games bowled at the NEC #2, she average 219.4. Howe-Yorio played in the anchor position for the Red Flash during the 2015-16 season.
Â
Howe-Yorio was also honored on Friday by being named to the 2015-16 All-NEC First Team.
Â
"Ashley has shown what she is made of - not only in her scoring, but in her mental toughness and her ability to block out any situation and let her talent take over. Countless times she has made key shots for our team, and even more times in supporting her teammates," said head coach
Tom Falbo. "Her conference play during NEC #2 was special all weekend and contributed to our regular season success. Congratulations to Ashley for this well deserved honor."
Â
Udziela has no equal among the rookies in the conference in terms of scoring performance. She was second in traditional average at 202.7, behind teammate Howe-Yorio. She was third in overall frame average in the conference at 19.81 over 197 frames bowled. She filled 86.5 percent of her frames. The highlight of her season was her performance at the NEC #2 where she averaged 210.8 in traditional play.
Â
Also on Friday, Udziela was named to the All-NEC First Team, which is a unique honor for a freshman.
Â
"Kyra is talented, coachable and during the course of the season, she found the recipe in her game for being able to hit her targets consistently and shape shots. She is a player with still great potential because of how she is able to focus on only the next frame with confidence," said Falbo. She sparked out scoring during the NEC regular season and inspired her teammates from how she supported them in turn. Congratulations to Kyra on her conference honors."
Â
Ross was named to the All-NEC Second Team. Ross had a traditional average of 191.5 for 10 games bowled and a 19.42 overall frame average during the regular season. This type of consistent play brought her the conference honors in her senior season.
"Sarah is energy. She leads by her passion, her awareness of the situation and her scoring. She thrives in the heated battles of conference play and brings out the best in her teammates during these times," said Falbo. It was her consistency in scoring in our conference regular season, which she contributed each day. But it's her passion that everyone who has ever competed with or against Sarah will long remember. Congratulations to Sarah on her earned honor today."
