Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Late SBU Rally For 16-14 Win

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's lacrosse team held off a second half rally by St. Bonaventure for a 16-14 win on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Field.  
 
The Flash improves to 3-6 on the season, while the Bonnies drop to 2-5.
 
Saint Francis was led by Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial)'s four-goal performance. Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) recorded three goals and added four ground balls, while Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) tallied three goals, three assists and registered two ground balls. Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) recorded five saves for her second win of the season.
 
The Bonnies struck a minute into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Flash rattled off five straight goals, highlighted by two goals from Mahon, to lead, 5-1. With 12:44 left to play in the first, SBU trimmed the SFU lead to just two at 5-3.
 
Saint Francis poured on five straight goals to take a commanding 10-3 lead. St. Bonaventure scored right before the end of the half to make it 10-4. The Flash outshot the Bonnies, 18-8, in the first half.
 
SFU scored two goals within three minutes to take a 12-4 lead. Both teams would trade goals before the Flash took a 14-6 lead.
 
St. Bonaventure slowed down the Saint Francis scoring attack and took advantage. SBU went on a 7-0 run to knot things up at 14-14.
 
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) broke the stalemate with a goal at the 4:09 mark to take a 15-14 lead. Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored with 23 seconds left to give the Flash the win, 16-14. The Bonnies outshot the Flash, 17-15, in the second half.
 
Saint Francis returns to DeGol Field on April 8 to face Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. The game will be lived streamed on NECFrontRow.com
