Women's Lacrosse Rally Falls Short at Gardner-Webb, 12-11

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Saint Francis women's lacrosse team nearly completed a comeback against Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon, but fell, 12-11, on the road.

The Flash falls to 1-4 on the season, while the Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 1-5.

Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic), Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East), Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) each scored two goals for the Flash. Fini lead SFU with three ground balls, while Alex Anton (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) finished with a team-high three draw controls. Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) finished with seven saves. Saint Francis outshot Gardner-Webb, 32-21, while firing 28 shots on goal.

Saint Francis outscored Gardner-Webb 6-5 in the second half after trailing by two at halftime.

Gardner-Webb opened the scoring in the first period with two straight goals before Mahon put the Flash on the board. The Runnin' Bulldogs went on to score two more goals before the Flash went on a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead.

With under one minute left to play in the first half, Gardner-Webb scored three straight goals to take a 7-5 lead heading into halftime.

GMU started the scoring just two seconds into the second period to take an 8-5 lead.  The Flash rattled off four straight goals to give Saint Francis the 9-8 advantage with 17:01 left to play.

The Runnin' Bulldogs scored once more to tie the score at 9-9 before Fischetti found the back of the net to give SFU the 10-9 lead. Mahon scored at the 7:06 mark to put SFU ahead, 11-9.

SFU did not record another shot as GMU scored three straight goals to take the game, 12-11.

The Flash returns to DeGol Field on March 12 against Bucknell at 3 p.m.
