Women's Lacrosse Falls to Bryant, 17-12

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Saint Francis women's lacrosse team fell on the road to the Bryant Bulldogs, 17-12, on Friday afternoon at the Bryant Turf Complex.

With the loss, the Flash falls to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the NEC, while the Bulldogs improve to 9-3 on the season and remains perfect in the NEC with a 3-0 record.

Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) each added three goals, while Mahon recorded an assist. Schaaf was one of four players that registered two ground balls.  Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Alex Anton (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) each recorded five draw controls.

Saint Francis scored the first goal of the contest on a Schaaf goal assisted by Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) at the 25:03 mark. Bryant answered with three goals in three minutes to take a 3-1 lead.

Mahon assisted Rowan to cut the score to one at 3-2 with 17:37 left in the first. The Bulldogs scored two-straight goals before the Flash fired back-to-back goals by Mahon and Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) to trail, 4-5.

Bryant scored four unanswered goals to take a 9-5 lead heading into the half.

The Bulldogs struck first in the second period before Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) scored to trim the Bulldogs' lead to four at 10-6. But Bryant tallied a goal shortly after and led, 11-6.

Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) scored to pull the Flash within six at 12-6. Both teams traded goals before the Flash rattled off three-straight goals by Ingram, Mazzur and Schaaf to trail, 14-10, with 7:49 to go in the game.

Schaaf's third goal of the game put the Flash within four at 15-11 with five minutes to play. Bryant then scored two more goals to extend their lead to six at 17-11.  Mahon tallied her third goal of the game off a free position shot at the 1:46 mark.
