No. 15 Men's Volleyball Fends Off Princeton in Five Sets

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 15 Saint Francis men's volleyball held off Princeton in five sets on Saturday night at Dillon Gymnasium. The Flash won the match, 25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 24-26 and 15-11.

Saint Francis improves to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the EIVA, while Princeton falls to 3-15 overall and 3-8 in the EIVA.

"It is never easy winning on the road in the EIVA. That was a very important win for us tonight," said head coach Mike Rumbaugh. "I'm glad the guys rose to the challenge in the fifth set."

Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) finished with 14 kills to lead the Flash, while Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) recorded 13. Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) added a team-high seven digs, while Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) recorded 46 assists.
  
SFU led the entire time in the fifth set and jumped out to an 11-4 lead. Princeton got within three after a Buck service error, but a Ford kill sealed the victory, 15-11.

The first set was a tightly contested battle with SFU taking an 11-9 lead. The Tigers came back to tie the score at 11-11. The rest of the set would remain close, but the Flash scored four of the last five points to close out the set, 25-22.

It was Princeton who used a 3-0 run to lead 9-5 in the second set. Later in the set, SFU scored three unanswered points to tie the score at 18-18. Saint Francis would outscore Princeton, 4-1, to take the second set, 25-22.

The third set also saw early ties and lead changes before the Tigers took a 12-9 lead. Princeton would cruise to a 25-18 win.

Princeton jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the fourth set. SFU would eventually tie the score at 18-18, but the Tigers would score the last two points to take the fourth set, 26-24.

Saint Francis returns to Loretto for its final two home games of 2016 beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Sacred Heart.
