Softball’s Seneca Earns National Player of the Week Honor

NFCA Release

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis softball sophomore Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) was selected Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week on Tuesday.  Seneca was rewarded for her efforts in helping lead the Red Flash to a 5-1 week, including a 4-0 weekend against NEC foes.

Seneca is the first player from the Northeast Conference to ever be selected as NFCA Player of the Week.

"This is an honor," said Seneca. "Our team has been working really hard. Because our team has had so much success, it's easy to build off of that and keep working hard. The fact that we're a really young team and having so much success is something really special. We're going to do really big things, with so many young starters performing well. We're on such a high right now, we feel like no one is going to knock us off from it."

The sophomore had an incredible week at the plate, going 8-for-16 (.500) with five home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs and a double.  She recorded a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage.

Seneca's home runs came in five straight games, starting with one each in the doubleheader, including a grand slam in the nightcap.

The Plum, Pa. native followed that with homers in each game against Bryant, two of 12 Red Flash dingers in the doubleheader.  Seneca's first inning homer in the second game, was one of five in the inning, tying an NCAA Division I Record for home runs in an inning.

Seneca scored four runs and added a double in the second game against the Bulldogs.

Her fifth bomb of the week came in the opening game against Mount St. Mary's, when she drove in four runs on two hits.

Seneca now has 16 homers on the year, passing Jamie Krusinsky (14, 2000) for the SFU single-season record.

Seneca also helped the Red Flash to set a new NEC record for home runs in a season, topping 55 home runs by Bryant last year.  SFU now has 67 homers, ranking ninth in the nation in home runs per game, with 1.43.

"Jordan has really stepped it up in practice the past few weeks," said Head Coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift. "She always works hard, but she just found another level to work at and its obviously paying off for her and the team.  This is a great accomplishment for her individually, but her success also helped us get some big wins, which is what working hard for the team is all about."

The Red Flash takes on Penn State on Wednesday in a doubleheader, starting at 6 p.m., at Nittany Lion Softball Park.  Saint Francis is 29-18 overall.
