LORETTO, PA-Â Saint Francis men's soccer opens up their home slate as the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds come to town for a non-conference match.Â
The two teams played to a scoreless draw last season in Maryland and both are coming off of tough losses on Friday night. The Red Flash dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, in overtime at Duquesne while Loyola missed a penalty kick and allowed a penalty kick in a 1-0 loss to LaSalle.Â
ABOUT THE FLASH
The Red Flash were picked second in the NEC pre-season poll. On Friday night, SFU outshot Duquesne 15-11, including 6-4 in shots on goal. SFU got the first collegiate goal from
Renan Fuentes (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Joao XXIII) as he broke through the Duquesne defense and finished off a give-and-go long run just before the end of the first half. Saint Francis will have 11 freshman who will make their regular season home debut.Â
ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS
Loyola is also 0-1 on the season after falling to LaSalle. The Greyhounds are coming off a 2-13-2 season. They are a bit of a wild card this year as they have brought in a nationally-ranked recruiting class according to College Soccer News. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in Maryland last season. This is the sixth-straight season the teams have matched up with the Greyhounds owning a slight 2-1-2 edge.Â
