ROUND ONE RECAP

Saint Francis men's golf started their fall season with a solid opening round at the Ryan T. Lee. Memorial Collegiate hosted by Central Connecticut.

Brandon Mihalo (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Holy Names Catholic) led the Flash with a one-over round of 73. The junior rebounded from a bogey on the first hole by carding birdies on the next two. Mihalo traded shots on holes five and six and a bogey on the par-3 ninth hole put him at even on the front nine. On the back nine, Mihalo had slight missteps on holes 12 and 13 but rebounded nicely with pars on the next four holes before carding a birdie on the par-5 18th.

Austin Renz (Danville, Pa./Danville) shot a round of 75 on Saturday to put himself at three-over par for the day. The junior started the round strong with a birdie on the first hole and rebounded nicely from a double bogey on the fourth hole with back-to-back birdies. He would close the front nine at two over. Renz continued his steady play on the back nine, carding six pars. After bogeys on 11 and 15, the junior birdied the par-5 seventeenth hole to put him at one over for the back nine and three over on the day.

Freshman Jacob Wilson (Sharon PA/Kennedy Catholic) had a strong first collegiate round on Saturday. The Sharon, Pa native responded from a bogey on the first hole with a birdie on the third. He repeated that pattern on holes seven and eight and closed his front nine at one over par. The freshman stumbled a bit on holes 12 and 13, playing them at three over but responded well by playing the remaining five holes at even par to log a 76 on the day.

Graduate student Kurtis Straw (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) fired a 78 on Saturday as a pair of double bogeys set him back. Dom Stevens (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) shot an 82 on Saturday to round out the scoring. As a team, SFU shot a day one 302 to put them at 14 over par collectively.
