Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) and sophomore
Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) both went over 20 points on the day, but the Saint Francis men's basketball team fell 78-72 at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. The Red Flash led at halftime, but a hot-shooting Mount team fought back in the second half. SFU dropped to 6-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while MSM improved to 7-12 overall and 5-1 in the NEC.

Braxton recorded his fourth double-double of the season, and second in NEC play, with 25 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists and a steal. Braxton hit 11-of-16 shots. King made a strong return to his home state with a career-high 23 points, including five threes. Randall Gaskins Jr. and
Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) both contributed seven points, with Wolford also pulling down five rebounds off the bench. Sophomore
Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) grabbed 14 rebounds, his third double-digit rebound performance this season, and added four blocks and four points.

Saint Francis shot 41 percent for the game, hitting 29-of-70 shots. SFU was 9-of-22 from the three point line, shooting 41 percent, and five-of-six from the foul line. SFU shot 41 percent in each half, but hit 50 percent from three in the first half. SFU also won the battle on the boards, 42-38.

Mount St. Mary's placed five players in double-figures led by Elijah Long's 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Greg Alexander had 16 points off the bench, with four threes, while Miles Wilson and Mawdo Sallah each had 13 points. Sallah also grabbed eight rebounds and had four blocks. Chris Wray had 10 points, five rebounds and four blocks for the Mount.

The Mount shot 45 percent, making 30-of-67 shots, but shot just 26 percent from three, hitting 5-of-19 looks. MSM made 13-of-17 free throws. Mount hit 54 percent of its shots in the second half, going 18-for-33 and went 8-of-11 from the line. Mount forced 14 SFU turnovers and grabbed nine steals.

The Red Flash went into the halftime break with a 36-32 lead. Braxton led the way with 13 points, hitting five-of-eight shots, and five rebounds. King added 11 points, including three threes, while Gaskins Jr. had seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Nebo grabbed 11 rebounds to go with two points and two blocks. SFU shot 41 percent in the half, including 50 percent from three, hitting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Alexander had 11 points off the bench to lead Mount St. Mary's. He hit three threes and added a block. Long had eight points and three rebounds, while Wray contributed six points, three rebounds and two blocks.

A 13-0 run by the Red Flash helped it jump out to a 21-9 lead with 12:41 left. The run started on a putback layup by Braxton, who already had eight points in the game. King then got hot from three, hitting three straight looks. Gaskins Jr.'s layup gave SFU the 12-point cushion.

However, Mount scored 11 of the game's next 16 points to bring themselves within six, 26-20, with 7:13 remaining in the half. Five different MSM players scored during that stretch, which started with two free throws by Sallah. Wilson added a layup before Wray threw down a putback dunk. Long then converted a layup and Alexander hit a three.

The Red Flash responded with a 9-0 run to push its lead back to 15, 35-20, with 4:25 left. That run included layups by Braxton and Nebo and a jumper and a three by Gaskins Jr.

Mount St. Mary's closed the half on a 10-1 run, with SFU's only point coming on a free throw by Braxton. Wray had four points during the MSM run, with a pair of layups, while Sallah converted a three-point play. Long made a layup and Alexander added a three to bring MSM within four points at the break.

SFU scored seven of the game's first nine points of the second half, with Braxton making two layups and Angelou hitting a three to give SFU a 43-36 lead with 17:53 to go in the game.

After Wilson and Wolford traded jumpers, an 11-0 run allowed Mount to take its first lead of the second half, 49-47, with 12:39 left. The run started on a layup by Sallah, who added another layup during the stretch. Robinson knocked down a three before layups by Alexander and Wilson gave Mount the advantage. A layup by SFU's King and a three by Wolford put SFU back on top, 52-49, with 12:07 to go.

After a pair of free throws by King, a jumper by Robinson sparked a 14-3 Mount run to give them a 66-57 with 7:20 left. Sallah hit jumper and a layup, before Wray added his own layup. Alexander then hit a three and Long converted a three-point play.

A late 8-2 run by SFU brought the Red Flash within three, 72-69, with 1:34 left. Braxton made a pair of layups, with Wolford and Nebo also adding layups during the run.

On the ensuing Mount possession, Nebo was called for a foul on a block attempt. Long converted both free throws to push the lead to five. Robinson extended the Mount lead to seven with a pair of free throws a few seconds later.

King hit a three from the corner to bring SFU back within four, 76-72, with seven seconds left. However, Long sunk a pair of free throws to seal the win for the Mountaineers.

The Red Flash returns to DeGol Arena on Thursday for an NEC matchup with Bryant. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row. The Bulldogs are 5-12 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
