DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Francis women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Wright State on Sunday.  The Raiders won the doubles point and five singles matches.  The Red Flash dropped to 0-2 this season, while Wright State won its season opener.

"Wright State is a very strong team with a lot of depth," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "They came out quick and didn't let up. I think there are a lot of positives we can take away from the match."

In the match at No. 1 doubles, freshmen Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) matched up against Taylor Culbertson and Tori Turner.  In a tight set, the Red Flash duo fell 6-5, including 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

Sophomores Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) teamed up at No. 2 against Haily Morgan and Linsey Verstrepen.  The SFU pair dropped a 6-0 result.

The Raiders won the match at No. 3 by default due to no SFU player available.

"In doubles, our No. 1 team played much better than they did on Saturday," said Castille. "We still need to be more aggressive at the net and more consistent at the baseline, but overall, I was pleased with some of the adjustments we made."

Bode took on Wright State's Vanessa Madrigal at No. 3 singles.  The SFU sophomore won the first set, 6-3.  She repeated that performance in the second set to clinch a straight-set victory.  Bode is now 5-6 overall in singles.

Gutierrez dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 against Karoline Haller, while Seigford fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 against Verstrepen.

In the match at No. 4, Miller fell 6-4, 6-4 against Morgan.  At No. 5, freshman Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) fell 6-2, 6-0 against Elaine Cloern.

The Raiders won the match at No. 6 by default due to no SFU player available.

"In singles, I was very pleased with how Stephanie and Raksha competed and played," said Castille. "Both have had very strong starts to the season. As a team, we need to be more consistent and more mentally tough. I hope the girls can take a way a lot of lessons from this weekend and apply them moving forward."

The Red Flash returns to action next Saturday at Howard.  That match begins at Noon.
