Red Flash Fall in Three at Sacred Heart

 
 
FAIRFIELD, CT- Sacred Heart got off to a quick start on their senior night and never looked back as the Pioneers swept the Red Flash on Saturday night.
 
The loss evens the Red Flash record at 12-12 and SFU now sits at 6-5 in the NEC while Sacred Heart is 11-12 overall and 5-6 in the NEC.
 
 
FIRST SET RECAP
  • Sacred Heart scored six of the first seven points in the set and forced an SFU timeout
  • Kills from Alexis Lambert (McKinney, Tx./McKinney-Boyd) and Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) cut the lead to 8-5
  • A Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) kill cut the lead to two, but SFU could get no closer
  • The SFU defense forced a pair of errors from the Pioneers to cut the SHU lead 18-16
  • The Pioneers responded with a 5-1 run to put the set out of reach
 
SECOND SET RECAP
  • SHU once again got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 6-2 lead and forcing another timeout
  • A Roush kill and combo block with Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) cut the Pioneers' lead to two
  • The Pioneers answered with a 5-1 run to go up 16-9
  • The Red Flash fought off four set points thanks to a pair of kills from Emily Pieper (Paonia, Colo./Paonia) but SHU closed the set at 25-19
 
THIRD SET RECAP
  • Pieper again helped spark the offense early in the third set as the teams went back-and-forth
  • A pair of Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) kills quieted a Pioneer run as SFU cut their lead to two
  • A 6-1 run midway through the set was the turning point, putting the set out of reach for the Red Flash
  • Two more kills from Pieper sparked a three-point rally but it would not be enough
 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Red Flash close the road portion of the regular season as they travel to Moon Township for a re-match with Robert Morris. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
