BROOKLYN, NY- Saint Francis wrapped up its swing through New York City in a hard-fought three set match against LIU Brooklyn that went the Blackbirds' way 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led a balanced offense with 10 kills and 10 digs for the Red Flash who dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast Conference. The back and forth match had 18 ties and six lead changes

"It is a disappointing result after such an emotional victory yesterday," head coach
Sara McMullen said. "Technically, we were sound today and it came down to a couple of key points, we'll correct those mistakes and get ready for next weekend."

FIRST SET RECAP
- SFU got out to a quick start thanks to a pair of blocks and led 4-1
- The Red Flash maintained the lead until LIU strung together a 7-1 run to force an SFU timeout
- The Blackbirds were able to keep the momentum out of the timeout and built an eight-point lead
- The Red Flash chipped away at the lead, fueled by a pair of Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) kills, forcing a LIU timeout
- SFU got to within four at 23-19 before LIU closed out the first set

SECOND SET RECAP
- Again the Red Flash got off to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the set, four off of Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield)'s serve
- LIU chipped away at the lead but SFU held onto the lead for the early stages of the set
- The Blackbirds' defense forced a pair of blocks, giving them their first lead of the set and prompting a Red Flash timeout
- That moment was the turning point of the set as the Red Flash would get no closer than two the rest of the set, doing so off of Marcinowski and Alexis Lambert (McKinney, Tx./McKinney-Boyd) kills
- LIU closed out the set at 25-20 off of a pair of kills to end the second

THIRD SET RECAP
- The third set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team gaining more than a point advantage until a 3-0 LIU run forced a Red Flash timeout
- A Christa White (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) kill and combo block helped to tie the match at 13
- A Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) kill on two different occasions gave SFU a two-point lead
- The turning point of the set came at 21-all when LIU ran off three-straight points to give them match point
