LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's tennis team is set to compete against Carnegie Mellon and St. Francis Brooklyn this weekend, with both matches at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville. Saturday's match against Carnegie Mellon will start at 2 p.m., with Sunday's contest against the Terriers starting at 9 a.m.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 1-4 this spring and will play its NEC opener on Sunday. SFU was off last weekend after falling 6-1 against Youngstown State on January 28.
Freshman
Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) is 3-2 this spring, playing all of her matches at No. 5 singles. Fellow rookie
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur), at No. 2 and sophomore
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School), at No. 3, each have two wins this spring. Sophomore
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) is 2-3 at No. 4, while freshman
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) is looking for her first win at No. 1.
Gutierrez and Seigford have a 1-3 mark at the top doubles spot. Bode and Miller have combined for two wins at No. 2.
Carnegie Mellon, ranked 12th in the ITA Division III Poll, is 4-0 this season, with wins over Oberlin (8-1), Christopher Newport (9-0), St. Joseph's (5-2) and Slippery Rock (9-0).
In singles, Cori Sidell (28th), Nicholle Torres (37th) and Jamie Vizelman (50th) are all ranked in the ITA Division III Poll. Torres is 4-0 at No. 1 this year, while Sidell is 4-0 at No. 2. Vizelman is 3-1 at the third singles spot. Sidell and Torres are 4-0 at No. 1 doubles.
St. Francis Brooklyn is 0-6 overall and 0-2 in NEC play. Last weekend, the Terriers fell 6-0 against LIU Brooklyn.
