- Mount won their fourth game in a row
- Saint Francis went 4-30 from three point range

LORETTO, PA- Mount Saint Mary's held Saint Francis to just 34 percent shooting overall and 4-30 from three-point range to spoil the 10th annual Think Pink game in a 66-58 setback on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena.Â
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg)Â scored a game-high 22 points in the loss for the Red Flash, who dropped to 10-3 in the Northeast Conference and into a three-way tie atop the league. Ashlee White led four players in double figures with 20 for Mount Saint Mary's who ran off their fourth-straight victory to improve to 7-6 in the NEC.Â
The Red Flash were facing an uphill battle all game long on Saturday. The Mountaineers raced out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter on Saturday, as they hit on their first three shots from the field and a pair from the line. A three by
Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) cut into the Mount's lead and Adams followed with another triple off a
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes (Manhattan)) rebound as SFU cut Mount St. Mary's lead to five at 13-8 after the first quarter.Â
Another Reese three was followed by a Kovatch lay-up as SFU drew even with the Mountaineers at 13. Reese's three would be the last for the Flash in the first half, who battled their shooting all game long. Mount St. Mary's would pull ahead on the next possession as White drained one of her two threes on the day. The Mountaineers would extend the lead out to as many as five in the quarter before
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) and Kovatch would score to knot the game at 22. Zezza was a defensive force on Saturday, blocking eight shots, five in the first half. The teams would traded the lead on a pair of occasions down the stretch before a jumper by
Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) and
Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) splitting a pair at the line gave SFU a 29-27 lead at the half.Â
It would be another back-and-forth quarter to start the second half as a lay-up by Kovtach gave SFU a four-point lead that was quickly erased as Mount scored four-straight of their own. The quarter saw seven ties and three lead changes. Kovatch paced the Red Flash, scoring 11 of her 22 in the frame and Reese added six of her nine. But SFU could not put any distance between them and the Mount who sank 10-11 free throws in the quarter to continually keep pace. A pair of free throws from Juliette Lawless gave the Mountaineers a two-point lead late in the quarter.
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) tied the game with a lay-in and her block on the other end gave SFU a chance to take the lead into the fourth quarter. However, Reese's driving lay-up went begging off the front end of the rim and the teams went to the fourth knotted at 48.Â
The turning point in the game was the Flash's inability to score in the fourth quarter. SFU went 15 possessions only managing 5-6 from the free throw line. The Red Flash went 0-7 to start the quarter and turned the ball over six times (leading to six Mountaineer points) before
Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) cashed in a lay-up with 40 seconds left. Mount Saint Mary's went on a 9-0 run to take a 59-51 lead with just over four minutes to go. They would lead by as many as 10 in the final stages of the quarter. A late three-point play by Kovatch went for naught as Mount Saint Mary's ran their win streak to four game.Â
Mount Saint Mary's out rebounded SFU 40-34 led by Mikal Johnson' eight rebounds.
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) and
Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) each had seven for SFU who led 7-3 in second-chance points. The Flash also out scored Mount Saint Mary's 34-28 in the paint and 18-17 off turnovers. Despite winning those statistical categories, the Flash's cold outside shooting was too much to overcome.Â
The loss drops SFU to 13-10 overall and 10-3 in the NEC while the Mount improves to 9-15 overall and 7-6 in conference. The Red Flash are back in action with a 7 p.m. tip on Monday night against Wagner.Â
