Nebo’s Career-High 24 Points Leads Saint Francis To 78-61 Win At St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) recorded his fifth double-double of the season, with a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Saint Francis Men's Basketball team to a 78-61 win at St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday.  The Red Flash improved to 10-12 overall and 7-4 in the NEC, while the Terriers dropped to 4-20 overall and 2-9 in conference play.  SFU has won three straight games in the NEC.
 
The Red Flash earned its fourth NEC road win this season, the ninth time that has been accomplished in program history.  SFU has five NEC wins this year by a margin of 14 or more points. 
 
Nebo made 8-of-13 shots from the floor and went eight-of-nine from the free throw line to post a career-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds and a block.  Nebo's 24 points included four dunks.  It was Nebo's fifth double-double this year and the sixth of his career.  With the block, Nebo now has 109 for his career, moving him into a tie for second-place all-time at SFU with Jerry Mack (1985-89).
 
Sophomore Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) recorded 18 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, with five reounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals.  Freshman Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) posted his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds, making five-of-eight shot attempts. 
 
The Red Flash shot 47 percent from the floor, despite going just 5-of-16 from three (31 percent).  SFU shot 83 percent from the free throw line, going 19-for-23.  SFU shot 52 percent in the second half, making 15-of-29 looks.  SFU won the battle on the boards, 42-34, and scored 32 of its 78 points in the paint.
 
The Terriers hit 35 percent of its shot attempts, including 32 percent from three, and went five-of-six from the free throw line. 
 
Gianni Ford led St. Francis Brooklyn with 10 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-11 shots.  Jagos Lasic had nine points, also off the bench, while Glenn Sanabria contributed eight points.  Off the bench, Gunnar Olafsson had seven points and 10 rebounds. 
 
The Red Flash led 36-26 at the half.  Saint Francis shot 43 percent in the half, hitting 12-of-28 from the floor, despite going just two-of-nine from three.  SFU hit 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
 
Nebo led SFU with 10 points in the half, going three-of-six from the floor and four-of-four from the free throw line.  He added seven rebounds and an assist.  Senior Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou) contributed nine points, hitting two threes and all three free throw attempts after getting fouled on a three attempt.  Blackmon had eight points, three rebounds and three steals in the half, while Braxton had six points and six rebounds. 
 
The Terriers went 10-of-32 from the floor (31 percent) and 3-of-11 from three (27 percent).  Sanabria and Ford each had five points to lead the Terriers.  Jahmel Bodrick added four points and three rebounds.
 
Braxton had the Red Flash's first four points of the half, with a pair of jumpers.  Nebo then scored the next four, with a jumper and two free throws.  A layup by Blackmon ignited an 8-2 SFU run, ending in a 16-6 lead with 12:46 to go in the half.  After Blackmon's layup, Nebo had the next six SFU points, with a pair of jumpers and two more free throws.
 
A layup by Robert Montgomery and a three by Ford pulled St. Francis Brooklyn within five, 16-11, but SFU responded with a 13-5 run to extend its lead to 29-16 with 7:21 to go.  Freshman Deivydas Kuzavas (Kretinga, Lithuania/St. Mary's Ryken (Md.)) started the stretch with a layup and ended it with a free throw.  Angelou hit two threes and Blackmon made two layups.
 
The Terriers responded with a 10-2 run to cut the SFU lead to 31-26 with 1:31 remaining in the half.  Sanabria had five points during the run, with a jumper and a three, with Rasheem Dunn adding a layup and Josh Nurse hitting three free throws.
 
Angelou was then fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws.  Blackmon added two free throws to close the half.
 
Nebo scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half, with Blackmon scoring 10 of his 18.
 
Saint Francis hit its first five shots of the second half to stretch its lead to 47-29 with 17:27 left in the game.  Braxton opened the half with a layup before Nebo slammed home a dunk off an assist by King.  Blackmon scored the next five points with a layup, on a backdoor cut and a perfect pass by Braxton, and a three.  King ended the stretch with a pull-up jumper after a steal.
 
That stretch was part of a 16-3 SFU run to start the half, ending in a 52-29 advantage with 15:03 to go.  After the jumper by King, Nebo scored the next four points, with a dunk and two free throws, while Braxton added a free throw. 
 
After a layup by Keon Williams, the Red Flash then scored eight of the game's next 10 points to take its largest lead of the game, 60-33, with 12:36 left.  SFU hit three jumpers, with Braxton, freshman Randall Gaskins Jr. and Nebo each hitting one, before Blackmon finished the run with a layup.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn responded with a 9-0 run to cut its deficit to 60-42 with 8:50 to go.  Lasic had two layups during the run, with Sanabria adding a three and Ford also making a layup.
 
An 11-4 run by SFU extended its lead back to 25 points, 71-46, with 3:25 left.  Nebo led SFU with six points during the run, with two dunks and two free throws, while Blackmon hit a three and Braxton converted two free throws.
 
The Terriers scored 15 of the game's final 22 points.  Darelle Porter had five points, with a three and a jumper, with Ford and Olafsson each contributing threes.  Nurse had a dunk and Lasic hit two free throws.
 
The Red Flash continues its Brooklyn road trip on Saturday as it faces LIU Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
