BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at Buffalo on Friday.  The Bulls won the doubles point and swept the singles action.  The Red Flash is now 3-8 this spring, while Buffalo, who was the preseason pick to win the MAC, is now 6-3.

"I was really pleased with the way the women competed today," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "Buffalo is a very strong team. They're picked to win their conference, so we knew it would be a tough match. We came out and played some really solid doubles. We lost a number of deuce points, which cost us the matches, but we can take a lot of positives away from our play."

At the top doubles spot, freshman Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and sophomore Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) met the Bulls' Margarita Kotok and Tanja Stojanovska.  The Red Flash duo fell 6-3.

Sophomore Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and freshman Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) matched up at No. 2 against Buffalo's Chantal Martinez Blanco and Anna Savchenko.  The SFU pair dropped a 6-2 result.

The Bulls won the match at No. 3 doubles by default due to no SFU player available.

Seigford took on Buffalo's Stojanovska at No. 1 singles.  However, the Red Flash rookie suffered a 6-1, 7-5 setback.  At No. 2, Gutierrez competed against UB's Martinez Blanco.  The SFU freshman fell 6-4, 6-0.

In the match at No. 3, Miller faced the Bulls' Mercedes Losada Rubio.  The Saint Francis sophomore dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision.  Bode matched up against Buffalo's Savchenko at No. 4.  The SFU sophomore suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback.

Freshman Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) met UB's Emel Abibula at No. 5.  The Red Flash rookie fell 6-0, 6-3.

Buffalo won the match at No. 6 singles by default due to no SFU player available.

"In singles, I think we played well," said Castille. "In each match, we had a number of opportunities. That's something we'll address and learn from. Against good teams, we have to take advantage of the chances we are given. Overall, I was pleased with how we competed and played and we'll definitely look to build off of this match."

The Red Flash takes on St. Bonaventure tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Olean, N.Y.  The Bonnies are 3-11 this season.
