  • With today's sweep, SFU has already clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament and needs just one win next weekend to clinch the top seed and home field advantage.

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The Saint Francis Softball team completed a perfect NEC road schedule with a sweep at Central Connecticut State on Sunday.  The Red Flash earned a 3-1 win in game one and a 9-2 victory in game two.

Saint Francis improved to 39-9 overall and 12-0 in the NEC.  The Red Flash has won 27 of its last 28 games, with its last two losses coming in extra innings.  SFU extended its win streak to 12 with today's victories.

With today's sweep, SFU has already clinched a berth in the NEC Tournament.  The Red Flash needs just one win next weekend to clinch the top seed, and home field advantage, in the tournament.  Robert Morris currently sits in second place with a 7-3 NEC record, but SFU's sweep over RMU on April 14 would give SFU the advantage in the tiebreaker if both teams would finish the regular season with the same NEC record.

The Red Flash finished its NEC road schedule with an 8-0 record for the first time in program history.  SFU is the first NEC team to go undefeated in its conference road schedule since LIU Brooklyn in 2009.

Saint Francis stole six bases today, including five in the second game.  SFU has collected 90 steals this season, a new NEC record after breaking the 85-stolen base mark set by UMBC in 1999 and 2000.

The Red Flash struck out 24 batters today, with 12 in each game, bringing its season total up to 253 strikeouts this year.  That is a new SFU season record, topping 250 strikeouts by the 2009 team.  Freshman Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) struck out 13 batters in six innings of relief on the day.

With her solo home run in game one, junior Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) tallied her 19th home run of the season.  Seneca set a new SFU season record, bettering the mark she set last season, and tied the NEC record, set by Mount St. Mary's Rachel Heinze, also set last year.

Seneca drove in two runs on the day to bring her season RBI total to 59, which ties the SFU season record that she set last season.  Seneca is just five RBI away from tying the NEC record, set by Monmouth's Heather Gordon in 2007.

The Red Flash plays its final non-conference series on Wednesday, April 26 when it visits Penn State.  A doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. at Beard Field.  The Nittany Lions are 20-26 overall and 6-11 in the Big Ten.

Saint Francis took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.  Troxell led off the inning with by lining a double to center.  Marion sent a groundball through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and third. Witthus then grounded out to third, but allowed Troxell to cross the plate.  C. McKee followed by reaching on an error on a pop fly in the infield.  On the play, Marion hustled home for the second run of the inning.

The Red Flash extended its lead to 3-0 with a run in the top of the third.  Norton hit a hard line drive to center for a leadoff single.  Cabell then lined a double down the left field line, allowing Norton to score from first.
