  • Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) picked up her 66th hit of the season, a new SFU record, while Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) became the first SFU and NEC player to have 20 homers and 20 steals in a season.
  • The Red Flash will host the NEC Tournament on May 11-13 in Loretto.

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Softball team finished a perfect 16-0 in regular season NEC play with a sweep over Wagner on Sunday at the Red Flash Softball Field.  The Red Flash won the first game 14-2 in five innings and followed with a 1-0 victory in game two.

The Red Flash won its program-record 18th straight game to improve to 45-9 overall and 16-0 in the NEC.  Five of the 18 wins have been mercy-rule victories.  Saint Francis is just two wins away from the NEC record, set by UMBC in 2002.

Saint Francis entered the day having already clinched the NEC Regular Season title and became the first NEC team to ever finish the regular season undefeated in conference play.

Sophomore Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) recorded two hits in the first game to break the SFU season hits record of 65, set by Nicole Bender in 2008.  McKee hits include 10 doubles, four triples and six homers.  She set SFU's season runs record earlier in the season and now has 61 this year.

Junior Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) broke the NEC home runs record on Saturday and added to that total with her 21st of the year on Sunday.  Seneca also stole two bases on the day to tally her 20th steal of the season.  Seneca is the first player in SFU and NEC history to have 20 homers and 20 steals in a season.

Seneca drove in her 63rd RBI of the season on her homer in game two.  Seneca is now just one RBI away from tying the NEC record, set by Monmouth's Heather Gordon in 2007.

Senior Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) earned her 17th win of the season in game one.  She is just two wins away from the SFU season record, held by Patricia Galayda (1998).

The Red Flash has ended the regular season and will begin preparing for the NEC Tournament.  As the top seed, Saint Francis will host the tournament on May 11-13.  SFU is hosting for the first time in program history.

Game One
Senior Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) picked up her 17th win of the season.  She went four innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out two.  Santai broke a streak of 13 consecutive scoreless innings.  Freshman Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) entered the game to pitch the fifth inning and threw a scoreless frame, which included a strikeout.

Junior Morgan Brown started in the circle for Wagner in game one.  She allowed 13 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits.  Brown struck out four batters and walked three in three innings.  Freshman Amelia Van Orman threw an inning, giving up a run on two hits.

Junior Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) led SFU with two hits, a double and a three-run homer, three runs and three RBI.  Sophomore Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) also went two-for-three, with a double, three RBI and a run.  Freshman Halle Marion (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs, while freshman Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) hit a three-run homer, the first homer of her career.

Senior Brianna Tredway had two hits and an RBI to lead Wagner.  Sophomore Karen Prihoda contributed two hits and a run.

Wagner got on the board in the top of the first.  With two outs and a runner on second, Tredway singled to right to drive in Prihoda to give Wagner a 1-0 lead.

The Red Flash responded with five runs in the bottom of the first.  C. McKee was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  After junior Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) grounded into a fielder's choice, sophomore Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) was hit by a pitch.  Two batters later, Cabell drew a walk to load the bases.  Sophomore Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) then lined a single to right to score Seneca and Norton.  Smith followed by launching a homer to center, a three-run shot and the first of her career, to put SFU ahead, 5-1.

The Seahawks added a run in the top of the third.  After a single by Tredway put runners on the corners, with two outs, Wagner attempted a double steal play, which resulted in freshman Zoe Bender crossing the plate and Tredway being tagged out in a rundown between first and second.  Wagner cut its deficit to 5-2.

Saint Francis exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third.  Cabell began the inning with a fly-ball double to right-center.  Two batters later, Smith drew a walk.  Marion then singled to left to drive in Cabell.  Senior Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) laid down a perfect bunt to allow pinch-runner Meg Murzello (Maple Shade, N.J./Holy Cross) to score from third.  After Witthus stole second, C. McKee hit a ground-rule double to left to left to plate Marion and Witthus.  Seneca drew a walk to put runners on first and second.  After a fielder's choice by Norton, S. McKee singled to left to score her sister.  Cabell blasted the first pitch of her at-bat over the fence in left-center, a three-run shot, to extend SFU's lead to 13-2.

The Red Flash added a run in the bottom of the fourth.  With one out, Marion lined a double to center.  After a flyout by Witthus moved Marion to third, C. McKee reached on an infield single to third to score Marion.  SFU led 14-2 going to the top of the fifth.

Game Two
Senior Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) dominated in the circle again, throwing seven shutout innings.  DeVries allowed only one baserunner, a single in the first inning, and ended the game by retiring 19 straight batters.  She struck out five batters.  DeVries recorded her fourth complete-game shutout this year and her sixth game in which she allowed one or less hit.

Senior McKaleigh Goodale started in the circle for Wagner.  She allowed just one run on three hits and walked one batter.  Goodale didn't give up more than one baserunner in any inning.

Seneca had two of Saint Francis' three hits in the game, including a solo homer in the fourth inning.  She also stole a base.  S. McKee had a single and also stole a base.

The home run was Seneca's 21st of the season, extending her NEC record, and she also recorded her 20th steal of the season.

Wagner's only hit was a single by junior Stefanie Aplin in the first inning.

After three scoreless innings, the Red Flash took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.  On a 2-1 pitch, Seneca hit a moonshot to left to lead off the inning.

In the bottom of the second, McKee led off the inning with a single to center.  She then stole second to move into scoring position.  However, the inning ended with three groundouts.

Seneca hit a one-out single to left in the bottom of the sixth.  She stole second before two fielder's choices finished the inning.
