LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team rode a four-goal second half performance to earn its first victory of the season. Saint Francis earned a 4-0 win over Central Michigan at DeGol Field on Friday.

Central Michigan (0-1) attacked early, and often against the Red Flash trying to edge an early advantage, but the strong team play by the Red Flash created a stalemate between the two teams. Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) saved the two shots she faced to keep the first half scoreless.

Saint Francis (1-0) scored early in the second half. Junior Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) scored the first goal of the season for the Red Flash during the 36th minute. Seabrook was able to find the back of the net after the assist by teammate Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton).

Freshman Taylor Massage (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey), junior Marielle Cavallaro (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley), and junior Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) followed suit and scored goals of their own during the 39th, 46th, and 62nd minutes of the game. The second half surge was enough to give the Red Flash its first victory of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) turned away all five shots taken by the Chippewas to earn her first shutout of the season.

Saint Francis returns home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match-up with the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
