Three seniors lead Red Flash to 4-2 victory

Loretto, Pa.- On a rainy day in Loretto, the Saint Francis men's soccer team (9-3-3, 5-0-2 NEC) caps off a 4-2 victory over Saint Francis Brooklyn (6-9, 3-3 NEC) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Olszewski Reaction
"The seniors have been great role models all season to the young guys and they really got rewarded today, said head coach Frank Olszewski. "As a team, we have been playing some unselfish soccer which can hopefully carry over to our next game against Robert Morris."
 
Turning Point
Seven minutes into the game, sophomore Christian Kirchhoff (Aarhaus, Denmark) delivers a perfect cross that finds the sliding foot of senior Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township). He slipped it in for his first goal of the season to give SFU a 1-0 lead.
 
Highlights
  • In the 21st minutes, senior Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) punches a leading pass to the Christian  Kirchhoff in the corner as he sets up a beautiful cross back to the foot of Mastrangelo to give the Red Flash a 2-0 cushion.
  • Saint Francis Brooklyn answers in the 26th minute on a goal from Ridwan Hannan as he executed a perfectly placed cross.
  • Late in the first half, Christian Kirchhoff (Aarhaus, Denmark) sends a high place kick that lands to the head of a leaping Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) as he secured his second goal of the game and second of the season.
  • Junior Tulio Canineu (Corbin, Ky/Corbin) places a cross to the head of senior Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro) as he notched his second goal of the season. Freshman Colin Serredszum (Montpellier, France) was also credited with an assist.
  • The Terriers cuts its deficit to two goal in the 69th minute as Mateo Caribotti flew in the box to create a second chance opportunity off a deflected save.
 
Inside the Box
  • Saint Francis outshot the Terriers, 14-7.
  • Shots on goal were 7-3 in favor of the Red Flash.
  • The Red Flash earned six corner kicks to SFBK four.
 
Notes
  • The win puts SFU in good position to possibly host the 2018 NEC Conference Tournament.
  • If LIU Brooklyn loses one game of its last two conference games, it will secure SFU chances to host.
  • SFU stays perfect on their home turf with a 5-0 home record.
  • Mario Mastrangleo led the Red Flash with four shots.
  • Nicco Mastrangleo's scored his first two goals of the season marking his fifth of his career.  
  • Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro) knocks in his second goal of the season.
